Royal Forest Coat - Ceci Johnson x Little Goodall

The Royal Forest Coat transforms Ceci Johnson’s original Royal Forest watercolor into richly dimensional embroidery, bringing its flowers, woodland creatures, and tiny winged visitors to life in thread. Against brilliant red, an ocelot sits among oversized peonies and irises, butterflies alight across the coat, and foxes and squirrels appear among exuberant arrangements of flowers. Dense layers of dimensional embroidery create remarkable color, texture, and depth, translating the delicate nuances of the original painting into something beautifully tactile.

The removable capelet makes the coat especially striking. Embroidered across both front and back, it creates a dramatic silhouette over the shoulders, with pairs of foxes and squirrels tucked among sweeping floral compositions. Fully lined in our Royal Forest print, the capelet reveals flashes of the original watercolor as it moves—and can be removed completely and worn on its own over the coordinating Royal Forest Dress or another favorite dress.

The coat itself has a classic, A-line silhouette, with long sleeves and fabric-covered buttons down the front. Inside is lining in the coordinating Royal Forest print, creating a vivid contrast against the red exterior and revealing the watercolor artwork each time the coat opens. Worn over the Royal Forest Dress, the two pieces create an extraordinary head-to-toe look, with the painted woodland of the dress reinterpreted in embroidery across the coat.
